Week 37 of Pregnancy
Your gentle companion as you enter full term
Hello, Wonderful Mama You’ve Reached Full Term!
At 37 weeks, you’re nine months pregnant with only a few weeks (or days!) until you meet your baby. Your little one is busy practicing sucking, breathing, and grasping preparing for life outside the womb. You may notice shifts in baby’s position and begin cervical checks; each sign means you’re progressing beautifully.
Your Baby at Week 37
Full Term at Nine Months
37 weeks marks month nine, with “early term” status until week 38. Most babies born now thrive without assistance.
Size and Growth
Your baby gains about half a pound per week and now weighs around 6 pounds, stretching to about 18–19 inches.
Practicing for Birth
Crowded space limits big kicks; instead, feel gentle rolls, stretches, and wiggles. Your baby rehearses breathing amniotic fluid, opening and closing eyes, and turning side to side.
Soft Spots and Baby Dimples
Fat deposits create adorable dimples in joints and folds in skin. Your baby’s skull remains soft for continued brain growth and easier passage through the birth canal.

Cervix Checks
Your provider will assess dilation (0–10 cm), effacement (thinning to 100%), and positioning of your cervix and baby’s head. These clues forecast labor readiness but don’t predict timing.
Perineal Massage Option
Perineal massage can gently stretch the area between vagina and rectum, reducing tearing risk. Learn from a pelvic floor therapist and use gentle pressure. You can continue massage during early labor.
